Noticing Nature (travel edition) 11/100 – Elusive gift
Working toward 100 posts of 100 words each about nature in our own backyards
Shoddy photo, I know. In my defense, it was 5:30 am. I was walking to meet my fellow birders for coffee and a strategy session. We had been out the last two mornings searching the forest for this very bird, the Resplendent Quetzal. The bird that, along with trout fishing, drove early tourism to Costa Rica. Do you see those exquisite tailfeathers?
I was in a parking lot. The darn bird was right there. Not in the trees - on a power line. Unbelievable. I snapped a few pics before it flew.
Wrong lens.
Lousy lighting.
But what a gift!
Good eye—funny that it ended up being right out in the open!
